BWL Water Tower Tank to Be Lifted

Nov 15, 2024 11:00 AM

The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) will lift the tank for its new water tower on Monday, November 18. BWL received a grant in the form of loan forgiveness and a low-interest loan from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) program to fund multiple upgrade projects within the water utility, including the construction of the water tower, water treatment plant upgrades, drilling new wells and replacing aging water infrastructure.

The water tower will increase reliability for BWL customers by maintaining water pressure to support daily water use, such as regular water consumption, fighting fires and sanitary purposes. It will also be used to help decrease operating costs for the water utility as it will fill at night when electric rates are lower and provide water during the day.

WHEN: Monday, November 18; the lift will start at 7:30am and is expected to take several hours

WHERE: 2030 Lake Lansing Road, Lansing

WHO: BWL General Manager Dick Peffley, available for interviews from 7:30-8am

“Lifting the tank is a significant milestone toward the project’s completion which will enhance water storage capacity, ensuring continued reliability and lower rates for BWL customers,” said Peffley. “This project is just one example of our commitment to upgrading and investing in our infrastructure to benefit our community now and into the future.”

The water tank is expected to be fully operational in fall 2025.
