BWL Launches New Power Outage Reporting Numbers

Jul 11, 2024 9:45 AM

The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has launched new power outage reporting numbers including a new phone number and texting short code for its nearly 100,000 electric customers – including both residential and business customers. Both numbers can report power outages and check on the status of an outage, while the 866-number can also report any downed electric wires and streetlight outages.

The new numbers are as follows:

  • Outage Reporting Phone Number: 866-710-8222
  • Outage Reporting Texting Short Code: 295688 (BWLOUT)

“We want to make sure everyone has the right information saved in their phones well ahead of any potential electric emergency,” said BWL General Manager Dick Peffley. “While customers won’t notice a difference with the new number, this update and new vendor allows the BWL to own both numbers with added internal features. It also means the numbers won’t change again.”

All BWL electric customers should delete any previously saved numbers and begin using the new numbers effective immediately for any electric emergency. Electric customers will also receive a mailer including a refrigerator magnet with the new information.
