THE BWL HOMETOWN ENERGY SAVERSSM REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER RECYCLING PROGRAM
Is seeking refrigerators and freezers that are a 1995 model or older. (You are not required to date your refrigerator to participate in the program)
WHY DOES THE BWL WANT OLD UNITS RECYCLED?
Removing your older, less efficient refrigerator and or freezer reduces the BWL's overall energy consumption. And, this can reduce the need for bigger power plants and has positive environmental impacts. In addition, this process ensures the refrigerators and freezers are recycled in an environmentally responsible manner and are not being returned to the used appliance market.
WHY SHOULD I TURN-IN AND RECYCLE MY OLD REFRIGERATOR OR FREEZER?
· You will save energy - old refrigerators and freezers can use as much as three times the energy of newer efficient models
· You will save money - an older, less efficient refrigerator or freezer could be costing you as much as $150/year in energy costs
· You will receive $30 and free pick up when you decide to turn-in your older, working refrigerator or freezer
· You will help save the environment and minimize land fill impact through advanced recycling services
T0 PARTICIPATE IN THIS INITIATIVE:
1. You must be an electric customer of the Lansing Board of Water & Light.
2. Your refrigerator or freezer must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet.
UPON PICK-UP:
· All refrigerators and freezers must be empty and in working condition at the time of pickup.
· There must be a clear path to your refrigerator or freezer for safe and easy removal.
· There is a pickup limit of two appliances (refrigerators and freezers) per BWL account, per year.
