Dennis M. Louney is a First Ward Commissioner for the Lansing Board of Water & Light. His term began on July 1, 2009, and ends on June 30, 2017. Commissioner Louney served as the Vice Chair of the Board from 2010 to 2014 and 2015 to 2016. He is employed by the Spicer Group engineering firm as the Public Affairs Representative. Louney is also the President of DML Consulting, a full service community and government relations consulting group. He began this business after twelve years with Delta Dental of Michigan in the same capacity. Commissioner Louney’s governmental career includes that of policy analyst and legislative assistant with the Michigan Legislature (1989-2000). He holds a Certificate of Public Power Governance from the American Public Power Association. Commissioner Louney received a master’s degree from Western Michigan University; a bachelor’s degree from James Madison College, Michigan State University and a Post-Baccalaureate Legal Assistant Certificate. He currently serves on the Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council and Do-1-Thing Board. He has served as Chair for numerous Lansing public service organizations among those: The McLaren of Greater Lansing Healthcare Foundation Board; Lansing Economic Club, Meridian Area Business Association Board. He is a First-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7816. A former Parent Teachers Association President for Fairview Elementary School, Louney was recognized by the Haslett-Okemos Rotary Club in 2008 as a Paul Harris Fellow and Business Person of the Year in 2010. He received the Boy Scouts of America District Award of Merit in 2013. A 28-year resident of Lansing, Commissioner Louney is married with two children.
