Chilled Water Service

The BWL offers chilled water service to commercial customers in the downtown Lansing business district. Chilled water service is used in place of building mounted air conditioning units, to provide space conditioning and dehumidification.

A chiller plant located at the Ottawa Station provides the BWL's chilled water. This is the former power plant on Ottawa Street at the Grand River. The plant currently has 10,000 refrigerant tons of chilling capacity, and is expandable to 20,000 tons.

Chilled water is supplied to customers at approximately 42 degrees and returns to the chiller plant at around 57 degrees.
